Jewellery Care

We are dedicated to crafting jewelry that is not only wearable but also collectible. In line with our commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainability, we encourage you to take care of your jewelry to keep it looking beautiful for years to come.

Jewellery Cleaning

To clean your jewellery, use warm water and a mild, non-detergent soap, or opt for a professional cleaning kit. We also recommend having your pieces professionally cleaned by a jeweller at least once a year to extend their lifespan.

Important Note: Cleaning the gemstone settings should always be done by a professional. Following these guidelines will help reduce wear, prolong the life of your jewellery, and maintain its radiant shine.

Jewellery Storage

Store Jewellery Separately: We recommend keeping your jewelry in a Third Orb jewellery box or pouch to prevent scratching and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your Third Orb jewellery remains as radiant as the day you received it.

Daily Wear

Remove jewellery During Activities: Please take off your jewellery when cleaning, showering, or sleeping, and always keep it away from heat sources.

Avoid Contact with Water and Chemicals: Keep your jewellery away from water and harsh chemicals. Chlorine, cosmetics, soaps, perfumes, and hairsprays can dull the shine and cause discoloration or oxidation of metals.

Protect Gemstones: Emeralds set in your jewellery can also be affected by water, chemicals, and humid environments. Therefore, we advise against storing your jewellery in the bathroom.

Be Mindful of Impact: Avoid knocking your jewellery against hard surfaces to prevent changes in shape, damage, or loose stones. This is especially important for rings, which are more exposed.
Beware of Stacking Rings: Stacking rings can cause abrasion, affecting the prongs that secure the stones.

Material: Jadeite

At Third Orb, we ensure that all our jadeite is sourced through ethical channels and of high quality.

Unique Characteristics: Each piece of natural jadeite exhibits distinct textures and appearances, making every stone one-of-a-kind. While the hardness of jadeite can vary, all jadeite is susceptible to damage or breakage when subjected to impacts with hard surfaces.

Care Guidelines:

  • Avoid pulling or bending any jewellery to prevent deformation. Rings featuring jadeite should never be squeezed, bent, or otherwise stressed, as this can alter the original setting and increase the risk of loose stones.
  • Our jadeite-set rings (those with jadeite encircling the entire band) should be worn gently.

Based on how frequently you wear your jewellery, we recommend having all jadeite-set pieces checked annually to ensure the metal settings remain intact and undamaged.

Professional Cleaning: The cleaning of jadeite settings should always be performed by a jeweller, as improper cleaning can easily damage these delicate stones.

Material: Metal

At Third Orb, we exclusively use precious metals, such as 925 sterling silver.

Understanding 925 Sterling Silver: This metal is considered 'soft,' meaning that thicker silver pieces, like rings from Third Orb, are more susceptible to collisions with other surfaces, leading to dents and tiny scratches. Over time, these imperfections may blend together, causing the surface of the ring to appear "softer," and scratches to become less noticeable. These signs of wear are not flaws; they are normal markers of use.

All our jewellery undergoes anti-tarnish treatment. We typically coat our 925 sterling silver pieces with a layer of rhodium for added durability. However, silver may still oxidize over time. To minimize this, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth after each wear to remove any accumulated dirt or oils. You can also purchase a silver polishing cloth from any jeweller.

For our gold-plated jewellery, we apply a 1-micron layer of 18K gold. This plating will naturally wear over time, but a professional jeweller can re-plate your items. Please note that our unique gold-plating process may result in slightly different results at your jeweller’s.

Earrings

Please note that none of our jewellery alloys contain nickel. However, when wearing earrings, some individuals may experience irritation. This could be due to certain metals in the alloy, as all alloys are made up of a mixture of different metals.

If you are wearing multiple studs in the same ear, be mindful that friction between the studs may lead to the coating wearing off more easily.

When opening and closing the earring clasp, avoid excessive force. The post that goes through the earlobe is delicate and can bend, while the clasp may wear out over time.
